A number of British cineastes have scheduled to protest against the recent visa ban by US President Donald Trump.
The cineastes recently announced that they will protest against the visa ban by displaying Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi’s ‘The Salesman’ on the silver screen in front of the US embassy in London.
Filmmakers from around the world will join UK filmmakers, including Mike Leigh, Keira Knightley, Joshua Oppenheimer, Kevin McDonald, and Terry Gilliam, during the screening of the movie on February 26, the night the Oscar ceremony is slated to take place.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has also condemned the Trump travel ban.
This is while Farhadi has declared his decision not to attend the 89th edition of the Academy Awards.
“I regret to announce via this statement that I have decided to not attend the Academy Awards Ceremony alongside my fellow members of the cinematic community,” Farhadi wrote.
Lead actress of ‘The Salesman’, Taraneh Alidousti, previously stated that she will boycott the Academy Awards Ceremony to protest Trump’s visa ban.
Donald Trump signed an executive order on Friday refusing citizens of seven predominantly Muslim countries entry to the US for a period of 90 days.
Many people across the US have protested inside or in front of airports, while some of them held Farhadi’s picture in placards, to criticize Trump’s visa restrictions for Syrian refugees as well as nationals of other countries.
